WHAT IS EPOD?
Education through Podcasting (EPOD) is an initiative which provides a space for academics, researchers, and professionals to come together to share and disseminate their research and practices using recorded audio media and podcasting. From the outset, we wanted to create a physical and social space for theoretical and practical discourses between educators, the podcasting industry, academics and practitioners.
The podcasting ecosystem now includes workshops and conferences that focus on specific aspects, such as podcasting and sports, podcasting and business, podcasting and the arts. We wanted to provide such a place for the podcasting educators of this new world.
EPOD's first conference took place at Morley College London in June 2024. The two-day conference was filled with fascinating presentations by academics and practitioners about their experiences of teaching, researching, learning, and training through podcasts. Speakers were given the opportunity to contribute a chapter to the first book to be published by Routledge. This is currently in production. Watch the film, find out more here. The second conference will take place 26-27 June 2025 at Morley College London.
EPOD's first conference in 2024, led to the first book, Podcasting & Education: Concepts, Communities & Case Studies. It is due to be published later this year by Routledge, and includes the work of 30 contributors. Watch this space for updates on the publication date.

EPOD, or Education through Podcasting, is an initiative launched in 2022 in partnership with Morley College (Camilo Salazar, Joanna Duchesne), Keele University (Tim Canfer), the University of Staffordshire (Carola Boehm), York St. John (Russ Hepworth‐Sawyer), and Routledge. Passionate about audio, and as avid listeners and creators of podcasts, we were keen to co‐create a space to explore the intersections between different forms of podcasting and learning environments. From the beginning, we wanted to create a physical and social space for theoretical and practical discourses between academics and practitioners.
In 2025, EPOD has evolved into a partnership between Routledge, Morley College London (Camilo Salazar, Joanna Duchesne), the University of Staffordshire (Carola Boehm), the University of Leeds (Car Hartle) and the University of South Florida (Lindsay Persohn).
Audio UK, Broadcast Radio, Morley Radio, Routledge and The Radio Academy proudly sponsor EPOD.
EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY
All involved in the organisation of EPOD are committed to encouraging fairness, equality and diversity throughout our event, in terms of the organisational structure, the invited participants and in the encouragement of presenters and paper authors. We welcome anyone interested in the conference themes to engage with us and join us in building a sustainable conference that can represent all education through podcasting related interests.
