WHAT IS EPOD?
Education through Podcasting (EPOD) is an initiative which provides a space for academics, researchers, and professionals to come together to share and disseminate their research and practices using recorded audio media and podcasting. From the outset, we wanted to create a physical and social space for theoretical and practical discourses between educators, the podcasting industry, academics and practitioners.
The podcasting ecosystem now includes workshops and conferences that focus on specific aspects, such as podcasting and sports, podcasting and business, podcasting and the arts. We wanted to provide such a place for the podcasting educators of this new world.
WHAT IS THE EPOD CONFERENCE?
The Education through Podcasting (EPOD) conference aims to bring together academics, researchers and practitioners to share research and experiences of teaching, learning and training through podcasts. Morley College London, the University of Staffordshire, Leeds University, and the University of South Florida jointly organise this initiative.
The third Education through Podcasting (EPOD) Conference will take place on 18th and 19th June 2026 at the University of Leeds. The conference theme will be: Beyond the Classroom: The Power of Podcasts in Shaping the Future of Learning and Media. For more information about this conference and the abstracts, click here. WHAT IS THE BOOK SERIES?
The EPOD Book Series is a partnership between Routledge, Morley College London, the University of Staffordshire, the University of Leeds and the University of South Florida. Authors are invited to submit paper abstracts for inclusion at each conference and full papers for consideration in each book in the series. EPOD's first conference in 2024 led to the publication of the first book, Podcasting & Education: Concepts, Communities & Case Studies. It is due to be published later this year by Routledge, and includes the work of 30 contributors. You can order a copy from Routledge here.
Chapters for the second book are in the peer-review stage and will be published next year. A Call for paper abstracts of 300-500 words has been sent for Conference 2026, which will take place at the University of Leeds. These will be reviewed for inclusion in the conference programme and forthcoming book.

THE HISTORY
EPOD, or Education through Podcasting, is an initiative launched in 2022 in partnership with Morley College (Camilo Salazar, Joanna Duchesne), Keele University (Tim Canfer), the University of Staffordshire (Carola Boehm), York St. John (Russ Hepworth‐Sawyer), and Routledge. Passionate about audio, and as avid listeners and creators of podcasts, we were keen to co‐create a space to explore the intersections between different forms of podcasting and learning environments. From the beginning, we wanted to create a physical and social space for theoretical and practical discourses between academics and practitioners.
In 2025, EPOD has evolved into a partnership between Routledge, Morley College London (Camilo Salazar, Joanna Duchesne), the University of Staffordshire (Carola Boehm), the University of Leeds (Carl Hartley) and the University of South Florida (Lindsay Persohn).
EQUALITY AND DIVERSITY
